Second stop on the Remy vs. Rome food tour: CODA ALLA VACCINARA! Oxtail is a traditional Roman dish that dates back to the 1300s.



The most difficult part for me was toasting the pine nuts—third time's a charm. I also (accidentally) went really heavy on the chocolate...which did not prove to be an issue.


If you can find Oxtail where you are, I definitely recommend giving this a try. The dish was savory and delicious. There was a lot of sauce left over, so we let it simmer down some more the following day, then poached eggs in the sauce—sort of like a Roman Oxtail Shakshouka—and had that for dinner.
